Welcome to Silly Eagle Books! My name is Vanessa and I am just a little bit obsessed with children's books. I love reading them, writing about them, and sharing them with others, in particular, with my preschool daughter, Juliet.
I started this blog as a place to record the reading journey we are taking as a family. Since becoming parents, my husband Ben and I have immersed ourselves in the wonderful world of children's literature. It's become part of our lives and has played a huge role in defining who we are as a family--we're learners, we're seekers, we're READERS.
I've loved books my entire life and have had more fun than I expected rediscovering my old childhood favorites and catching up on all that I have missed since "growing out of" kids books. We use books to teach our daughter, entertain her, and bond with her. We hope that she will always love reading and that it is an activity that we will enjoy together as a family for many years to come.
It's my hope that this record of our journey can inspire you to take your own reading adventure with your children. I want to share what we have experienced so that sitting down and reading with your own children is not something you have to do or that you just need to find time for, but that it can be easy, accessible, and most of all FUN.
The problem with being a book-hoarder is that you never quite know exactly what you have on your shelves.
I have no idea when I picked up this elementary reader Seven Is Magic, but I've been waiting to use it for school for Juliet. She's seven now, so what better time than this year? :)
It's actually probably a little bit below her reading level, but I think she'll still have fun with it.
I picked it up for the illustrations. Hopefully, the stories and poems are as good as the pictures.
Every so often, I run across these at goodwill. I used to love reading ahead in my reading/literature book at school whenever I was done with my work early. Just flip through to the back (to the part that we would never get to in class!) and just read away.
